Dystopia Rock Opera makes its Edinburgh Fringe debut from 1st to 16th August 2025 after an amazing preview at The Rock Bottom in Falkirk where it received rave reviews!
Dystopia: The Rock Opera” Brings Biggly Ideas, Biggly Laughs, and Even Bigger Guitars to the Edinburgh Fringe
Folks, get ready—because something extraordinary is about to hit the stage! Beldon Haigh are bringing their highly acclaimed “Dystopia: The Rock Opera” to the Fringe, and trust us—you won’t want to miss it!
This isn’t just any rock show. It’s a riotous, razor-sharp satire wrapped in electrifying music, packed with larger-than-life characters, and laced with a surprising amount of heart. If you like your political satire with a side of face-melting guitar solos, this is the show for you!
At the heart of the story are two unlikely heroes—Beldon Haigh, a disgraced spin doctor, and Helen “No Regrets” Raiser, an arsonist with a powerhouse voice. Together, from the confines of their prison band, they take us on a journey through a nation ruled by President Blame, a megaphone-loving megalomaniac with a Scottish twang and penchant for chicken curry and sausage rolls. With the help (or hindrance) of a billionaire backer and a host of autocratic rock stars—including Touchy Trump on bass, Polonium Putin on drums, and Kim Jong Elvis on lead guitar—Blame keeps his people under his thumb. That is, until a new party with an outlandish idea sweeps into power…
With 14 original songs, a live band bringing serious rock energy, and eerily convincing (and hilarious) masks of world leaders, Dystopia is equal parts rock spectacle, biting comedy, and social commentary. And while it’s packed with big laughs and even bigger anthems, there’s a deeper message beneath it all—one that asks us to look past the chaos and cynicism of modern life and dare to find a little happiness.
Whether you come for the music, the satire, or just a great night out, one thing’s for sure—this show is a must-see. So grab your tickets, support local talent, and get ready to rock—because Beldon Haigh is about to bring down the house!
‘Political, angry, thought-provoking and always entertaining…a biting satire on the reality of life in 2025, ‘the’ musical for today that allows us to look ahead with optimism, even in these dark times.

Raucous collection of songs deftly woven into an emotional voyage of self-discovery and a powerful indictment of the politics shaping society today.
Edinburgh Reporter
A rollicking rollercoaster of a show, Dystopia provides a beacon of hope in a darkening world. Dystopia dismantles and exposes today’s psychotic tyrants through satire and song.
Louder Than War
Raucous rock and politically satirically-tinged belters with a huge dose of humour.
Falkirk Herald
Beldon Haigh songs are often about broken systems and things. Songs exploring people’s increasing obsession with convenience and consumerism, whilst wondering why we still long for the past. Songs to provoke, satirise and entertain.
From a musical vintage that cherishes real instruments, intriguing arrangements and contemporary playing. The band deliver a fitting musical tapestry on which to weave the more traditional values of fairness, compassion, camaraderie, fellowship, community and society illustrated in the songs.
A focus on what is really important in life, rather than the acquisition of possessions, wealth or power.
The Scotland-based band uses music to tell stories, provoke, poke-fun, protest and create impact.
